Vetark and reptiles
Reptiles are easy to keep BUT need fairly specific life support products
Reptiles make excellent and interesting pets. Their popularity has grown tremendously over the past decade mostly due to the many different species of reptile that are now captive bred here in the UK.
Because reptiles have vastly differing diets, accommodation and environmental needs depending on the species you wish to keep it pays to research the species in depth before making your decision as to which Reptile species to keep. There is a vast amount of information available so enjoy your research.
Vetark is lucky to have access to our MD, Peter Scott has been one of the UK's leading exotics vets for over 25 years. He received the Parke Davis Prize from the British Veterinary Zoological Society in 1986 for his contributions to reptile medicine. He has pioneered exotic veterinary medicine in UK and assisted its growth to current high levels. Peter developed the original formulations of all of our products and still keeps the scientific literature under close expert review to make sure that our products always reflect the best knowledge available.
Reptile keeping is becoming easier and easier with high quality housing products available, better lighting and heating arrangements etc. Because in captivity their 'environment' is usually more restricted than in the wild (although many wild territorial species do remain in a very defined area) the cleanliness of their environment is very important to their health and welfare. Similarly they are totally dependent on owners for their food, it needs to be appropriate and nutritious, and so using the appropriate supplements is very important.
Vetark have some key reptile vitamin supplements, our Nutrobal calcium and D3 balancer (with all the other important vits) has make a major contribution to reptile welfare in enabling the keeping of these great animals. Nutrobal calcium balancer is especially important for insectivores so it is designed to stick to insects when they are dusted and helps meet the calcium and D3 demands of growing reptiles such as bearded dragons, leopard geckos, and tortoises.
Once animals are well grown they can often be switched onto our more rounded vitamin supplement Arkvits which is a mix of Nutrobal -high cal cium and D, and ACE High. this combination product is ideal for long term maintenance of most reptiles.
CalciDust is valuable when the vivarium is lit with an effective UV source and perhaps less D3 is needed in the diet, such that vitamins might only be needed a couple of times a week.
